The Hugh Masekela Heritage Festival is not just a jazz festival, but will be a showcase of a range of musical genres typical of and in celebration of the diversity of our rainbow nation. The Festival will have a mix of jazz, rock, kwaito, house and traditional maskandi music on offer.
Be sure not to miss great performances from some of the best artists of each genre – Bra Hugh Masekela, Khaya Mahlangu, Phuzekhemisi, Mi Casa, Pu2ma, Jeremy Loops, Desmond & The Tutus and Thandiswa Mazwai – as tickets are selling fast.
The Festival promises to be a jam-packed day of great entertainment for the whole family – with supervised play areas for children available (children to be accompanied by adults). Festival-goers are welcome to bring their own food and drinks, camp chairs and umbrellas for a fun day of music under the sun. The first 100 families through the gate will receive a free gift. Food stalls will include fare from local Soweto vendors as well as Spur & Barcelos, and SAB is to provide refreshments.
More details of the event are available on Soweto TV, Jozi FM and social media platforms Facebook and Twitter; where ticket give-away competitions are currently underway. Daily updates on the build-up to Saturday’s exciting event are also available on social media. Lots of give-aways and wonderful prizes will be distributed throughout the day. Come and celebrate our great heritage with music this weekend with Hugh Masekela and Assupol, at what is set to be the biggest music event that Soweto has ever seen.
