Creating employment opportunities for the youth in ECD

Assupol invests in the creation of employment of young people.
Assupol, has through its Community Trust, partnered with the government’s Youth Employment Service (YES) to invest in the creation of employment of our country’s youth.
The YES initiative aims to contribute towards building and strengthening our economy by creating one million jobs and job opportunities for young black South Africans from rural, urban and peri-urban areas within the next three years.
Through this partnership, 196 young people, of which 94% are women, have been recruited and placed in paid learnership programmes in various Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres that the Assupol Community Trust supports in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal areas of Nellmapius, Msinga and Nquthu.
Upon placement, the young people have been equipped with basic skills to support practitioners in the ECD centres and to function as day mothers and play-group facilitators. Additionally, they were exposed to various online courses that prepared them for the world of work.
This initiative echoes our commitment to serving our communities. “By equipping our youth, especially our young women today, we give them, the advantage they will need to guarantee a successful future,” said Dr Vuyelwa Nhlapo, CEO: Assupol Community Trust.
